The Honeymoon

This is your honeymoon done right — six days split between the Algarve coast and Lisbon, weighted toward calm mornings, unhurried sunsets, and the kind of meals you'll still be talking about next year. You'll stay at adults-only clifftop spots, sail into sea caves at golden hour, and build in enough empty space that you're not checking a watch every two hours.

  1. Day 1

Arrive Faro, Settle Into the Algarve

    Afternoon

Land at Faro, pick up a private transfer straight to your resort. Check in at Vila Vita Parc near Porches — clifftop grounds, ocean-facing rooms, and a spa you'll use tomorrow.

    Evening

Unpack slowly, then walk the property at sunset. Dinner at one of the resort's quieter restaurants — something ocean-facing, nothing rushed.

  2. Day 2

Benagil Cave by Private Boat, Spa Afternoon

    Morning

Private speedboat departure at sunrise to Benagil Cave — you'll have the cathedral dome and the light spilling through the collapsed roof mostly to yourselves before the tour groups arrive. Swing past Ponta da Piedade's arches on the way back.

    Afternoon

Return to the resort by late morning. Book a couples massage at the Vila Vita spa, then spend the rest of the day by the pool or on the private beach access.

    Evening

Dinner at the resort's two-Michelin-starred option if you're feeling the splurge, or drive fifteen minutes to a quieter coastal spot in Carvoeiro.

  3. Day 3

    Algarve Dolphin Watching, Market-to-Table Cooking

    Morning

Morning catamaran for dolphin watching off the Algarve coast — small group, biologist on board, with stops for swimming near hidden beaches. You're back by early afternoon.

    Afternoon

Late-afternoon cooking class focused on cataplana — seafood steamed in the copper pan the Algarve's known for. You'll start at a local market, then cook and eat a full multi-course meal together.

  4. Day 4

Transfer to Lisbon with Sintra Stop

    Morning

Private transfer north toward Lisbon, stopping in Sintra for three hours. Your driver will drop you at Pena Palace and the old Moorish castle, then pick you up after lunch in the village.

    Afternoon

Arrive Lisbon by late afternoon and check into Pestana Palace — a 19th-century estate hotel with gardens, frescoed ceilings, and enough old-world weight that you'll want to stay in for the night.

    Evening

Dinner on-property or a short ride into Belém for something traditional near the monuments.

  5. Day 5

Lisbon Tasting Walk, Tagus Sunset Sail

    Morning

Start late morning with a walking food tour through Alfama and Baixa — pastel de nata in a working pastry shop, petiscos in a century-old tasca, ginjinha shots, and market stops. This runs three to four hours and covers lunch.

    Afternoon

Return to the hotel for a break. You've earned the downtime.

    Evening

Evening departure for a private Tagus River sunset sail — just the two of you, wine on deck, the bridge turning gold overhead. Two hours on the water, back by dark.

  6. Day 6

    Couples Photoshoot, Departure Prep

    Morning

Morning couples photoshoot in Lisbon — either Alfama's tiled alleys and miradouros or Belém's waterfront monuments. One to two hours with a local photographer, digital delivery within the week.

    Afternoon

Lunch somewhere you've been meaning to try, then a slow afternoon packing and wandering the neighborhood near your hotel. If your flight's not until evening, consider one last stop at a rooftop bar in Bairro Alto or Chiado.

Know before you go

  • Book the Benagil private boat and Tagus sunset sail as early as possible — both sell out weeks ahead in summer and shoulder season.
  • Vila Vita Parc and Pestana Palace both have multiple restaurant options on-site; if you're doing the two-Michelin-starred splurge, reserve that table when you book the room.
  • The Algarve-to-Lisbon transfer with a Sintra stop takes most of the day. Pack a day bag with water and comfortable shoes — you'll be walking palaces and castle ruins.
  • Lisbon's food tours run long and cover a lot of ground on foot. Wear shoes that won't punish you after three hours on cobblestones.
  • If your honeymoon falls in July or August, expect crowds at Benagil and Sintra no matter when you go. Sunrise and late-afternoon slots help but don't eliminate the problem.
  • Both resorts have strong spa programs. If you want specific treatments or couples slots, book those at the same time you confirm your rooms.
  • Portugal's Atlantic coast is cold year-round. If you're swimming off the boat or at the resort, the water will be bracing even in summer — that's normal.
  • Private transfers between cities and for airport pickups cost more than trains or rideshares, but they're worth it when you're traveling as a couple with luggage and a set itinerary.
