Pastelaria o Sol is a $ portuguese & bakery local restaurant in Lisbon rated 5.0/5 by 2 TripAdvisor reviewers; walk-ins welcome.

About

Pastelaria o Sol is a cheap-eats spot in Mafra, the town known for the palace-convent complex. Two reviews put it at a perfect 5.0 overall, with food and service both hitting top marks—though value trails at 3.0, so portions or pricing may explain that gap. It's a pastelaria, which means the counter likely runs to tarts, pastéis, and possibly sandwiches or light bites rather than full sit-down meals. The address on Rua Serpa Pinto suggests a local street rather than the main tourist corridor, so you're more likely to be standing at the counter with Portuguese regulars than with tour groups. With only two reviews logged, it's early days for crowd consensus, but perfect scores on food and service in a category this cheap suggest someone's doing careful work. If you're in Mafra between palace visits, it's worth a stop—just manage expectations on portion size given that value score.

Aventura X

Aventura X runs outdoor activities from a base in eastern Lisbon, and the 5/5 rating across 39 reviews puts it at the top of local operators. They handle group bookings for adventure sports — the kind of setup where you're dealing with guides who actually know the terrain rather than someone reading from a script. The perfect rating suggests consistency in delivery, which matters when you're trusting strangers with ropes or water equipment. The review count is solid enough to mean the rating isn't just three friends being generous. Eastern Lisbon isn't where most visitors stay, so this is a specialist outfit pulling people out of the city center for whatever they're offering. If you're booking, confirm exactly what you're signing up for — duration, physical requirements, group size. Perfect ratings can mean they're selective about what they promise and who they take out.

Reserva de Burros

Reserva de Burros is a donkey sanctuary outside Sintra, off the EN 247 near Praia das Maçãs. It's volunteer-run and built around rescued donkeys that live on-site. The single review gave it five stars, but with just one data point it's hard to say what you're signing up for in terms of format or schedule. Most donkey sanctuaries in the area offer short visits where you can walk with the animals or help with feeding — this one likely follows a similar model, though specifics aren't published. If you're traveling with kids or just want an hour away from palaces and pastries, it's an option. Confirm availability before you drive out.

Pasteis de Belem

Pastéis de Belém is the original pastry shop in Belém where Portugal's famous egg tarts have been made since 1837, using the same recipe the whole time. The line wraps around the block most days — 54,000+ reviews put it squarely in institution territory — but it moves. You can grab a box to go from the counter or sit in one of the tiled dining rooms in back, where waiters in vests bring coffee and you order by the half-dozen. The tarts come out warm, the custard wobbles, and you dust them with cinnamon and powdered sugar at the table. The 4.6 food rating reflects the fact that people don't argue about whether these are good — they argue about whether anywhere else comes close. It's cheap, it's cash-friendly, and the atmosphere is more functional than precious. You're here for one thing. Get it, eat it, keep moving.

Frade dos Mares

Frade dos Mares is a seafood spot in Lisbon's waterfront district, a few blocks from the Tagus. The 4.8 rating across 6,000+ reviews isn't typical for a mid-range restaurant — most fall apart at scale, but the subratings hold steady across food, service, and atmosphere, which means they've figured out consistency. The kitchen leans Portuguese seafood, and the value rating at 4.6 suggests portions and pricing line up. Service matches the food score, so expect the room to move without much friction. The atmosphere rating implies they've kept it comfortable without leaning into theme-park nautical decor. It's the kind of place that works because it doesn't try to be more than it is: solid seafood, fair prices, staff who know the menu. If you want something polished without the markup of the tourist traps closer to Belém, this is the move.

Manteigaria - Fábrica de Pastéis de Nata - Chiado

Manteigaria sits on Largo de Camões in Chiado, and it does one thing: custard tarts straight from the oven. The 4.9 food rating comes from getting the fundamentals right — crisp pastry, creamy center, the right char on top — and serving them warm every time. Lines form, but they move because the operation is tight and the menu is short. The space is half bakery, half counter seating with a view of the production line. You watch the tarts come out, grab two or three with an espresso, and you're done. The value rating reflects what you'd expect: these cost about what a tart should cost in Lisbon, which is not much. It's cheap because it's efficient, not because it's cutting corners. If you want pastéis without the Belém trek or the tourist markup, this works. Expect to stand or perch. Expect it to be busy. The tarts justify both.
