About

A Nova Estrela is a neighborhood Portuguese spot in Cascais that's been pulling a steady crowd for years—over 3,000 reviews and a 4.7 rating say something about staying power. The service marks slightly higher than the food, which is rare and usually a good sign: people remember being looked after. The menu sticks to traditional Portuguese cooking without fuss, and the mid-range price point means you can bring the family without wincing at the check. The atmosphere rating matches the food, so expect a casual room where locals actually eat—not a tourist set piece. Value scores at 4.7, which tracks with the price tier: you're getting honest portions at honest prices. They take walk-ins, so you don't need to plan days ahead, though weekend evenings will have a wait. If you want straightforward Portuguese food in Cascais and don't need a view or a scene, this works.

TourTailors

TourTailors runs private tours out of Cascais, and with 1,675 reviews holding a perfect 5/5, they've clearly figured out the formula. The private angle matters here — you're not getting shuffled onto a coach with 40 strangers. They customize routes based on what you actually want to see, whether that's Sintra's palaces, the coast toward Cabo da Roca, or wine country runs into the interior. The rating spread is unusual. Most tour operators with volume eventually catch a few bad days, but this one hasn't, which suggests tight quality control and probably a small, consistent team. They're not the cheapest option in the area, but the review pattern shows people don't seem to mind paying for a guide who knows the back roads and doesn't stick to a script. Book directly if you can — they're responsive and will adjust timing around your actual arrival logistics, not just the printed itinerary.

Salty Souls Surf School

Salty Souls runs surf lessons on two of Cascais's best beaches — either the exposed, Atlantic-facing Guincho or the calmer bay at Carcavelos. A perfect 5/5 across more than seven hundred reviews suggests they've figured out how to teach beginners without the usual chaos. Sessions last two hours and run around $45, which is standard for Portugal's coast but reflects the all-ages, all-levels approach. The intensity rating sits at moderate, meaning you'll work but you're not expected to show up fit. What stands out is consistency. That review volume doesn't happen without reliable instruction and equipment that works. Guincho is better if you want real surf and don't mind wind; Carcavelos is the safer bet for first-timers or families. Book direct through their site — they handle their own calendar, so availability is clearer than going through a reseller.

Smoother Rent A Scooter

Smoother operates out of a marina storefront in Cascais and rents electric scooters by the half-day. The 5/5 rating across 455 reviews says something about how the business runs — you show up, they hand you a helmet and a charged scooter, and you're gone. The scooters handle the hills around town without burning your calves, which matters if you're planning to cover Boca do Inferno or the coastal path to Guincho. Minimum age is 18. Four hours is enough to loop the waterfront, stop for lunch, and still make it back before the rental window closes. Fifty dollars isn't cheap, but it's less than a cab tour and you move at your own pace. Book direct through their site if you want to lock a scooter for a specific morning — summer weekends can sell out.

Taberna Clandestina Cascais

Taberna Clandestina sits on a side street in Cascais, a short walk from the waterfront, and it pulls off something tricky: Portuguese, Italian, and tapas all under one roof without feeling confused. The 4.8 across food, service, and atmosphere with 2500+ reviews is the kind of consistency that matters when you're deciding where to eat on a Thursday night. The kitchen moves between grilled octopus and house-made pasta without apology, and the mid-range pricing reflects that. It's casual enough for kids, so you'll see families alongside couples splitting plates at the bar. The value rating suggests portions are generous and the bill won't surprise you. No reservations required, but that cuts both ways — peak hours mean a wait.

Malacopa Taco Bar

Malacopa Taco Bar is a Mexican spot in Cascais that runs counter to the usual tourist-trap suspicions about imported cuisines in beach towns. The 4.8 rating from over 2,000 reviews is backed by near-perfect subratings: food, service, and atmosphere all land at 4.9. The value score at 4.7 suggests mid-range pricing that holds up against what you're getting. The focus is tacos, and the kitchen seems to know what it's doing—food quality numbers like that don't happen by accident in a market where mediocre versions are everywhere. The vibe is casual, which tracks for a taco bar, and it's a workable option if you're traveling with kids. Reservations aren't required, so you can walk in, though prime dinner slots in Cascais can fill fast in season.

Paladar Da Guia

Paladar Da Guia is part of the Casa da Guia complex on the coastal road in Cascais, where a few restaurants share the same dramatic setting on the cliffs above the water. The 4.9 atmosphere rating makes sense once you see the terrace — open-air, right over the rocks, with views straight out to the Atlantic. The international menu keeps things flexible, and the kitchen clearly works (food scores 4.7), but most people are here for the combination of location and ease. It's casual enough for families, and you don't need a reservation, which is rare for waterfront spots in Cascais that aren't total tourist traps. The value rating sits at 4.3, so expect mid-range pricing that reflects the real estate more than the complexity of the food. Come for lunch if you want the light and the view without the dinner crowd. It's one of those places where the setting does half the work, and the kitchen doesn't mess it up.

Grande Real Villa Itália Hotel & Spa

Grande Real Villa Itália sits in central Cascais, a five-minute walk from the waterfront and the town's main shopping drag. The 4.7 overall rating holds across every subcategory—rooms, service, cleanliness all land at 4.7 or above, and location scores a 4.8, which makes sense given you can reach both the marina and the train station on foot. The spa is on-site, and the property skews formal without feeling stiff. Cascais doesn't deal with sargassum, so the beaches here stay clear. The hotel's positioning works if you want a base that's walkable to restaurants and the coast but still feels like a proper resort when you come back at the end of the day. Value scores a 4.5, which is solid for this tier in Cascais—you're paying for the location and the consistency, not for novelty.

Cascais

Hotel Cascais Miragem Health & Spa

The Cascais Miragem sits right on the waterfront in Cascais, with direct ocean views and a spa that takes itself seriously. The 4.7 overall rating holds steady across nearly 1,800 reviews, but the standout is cleanliness at 4.9 — rooms stay spotless, and the staff keeps everything tight. Sleep quality at 4.8 suggests good beds and solid soundproofing, which matters when you're this close to the Marginal road. Service also clocks in at 4.8, so expect attentive front desk work and quick room turnover. The value score of 4.4 is the lowest subrating, which tracks for a full-service resort in Cascais — you're paying for the location and the amenities, not looking for a deal. The spa is the draw for most guests who book here; if you're not planning to use it, there are simpler options nearby. It's a solid choice if you want resort comforts without leaving Cascais proper. The beach is steps away, and the town center is walkable when you're done with the property.

Cascais

Pestana Cidadela Cascais

Pestana Cidadela Cascais sits inside an actual 16th-century fort on the Cascais waterfront, which means part of your walk to breakfast involves crossing stone ramparts over the Atlantic. The location score — 4.8 out of 5 — reflects what you'd expect: immediate beach access, walkable town center, zero need for a rental car if you don't want one. Rooms and cleanliness both rate above 4.4, with sleep quality hitting 4.6, which is high for a property this size. Service runs at 4.5. The value rating sits at 4.1, so this isn't budget territory, but the fort setting and direct ocean access account for some of that. The coast here doesn't deal with sargassum, so the beach situation stays consistent year-round. If you're choosing between Cascais resorts, this one trades modern polish for actual history — the citadel layout is real, not themed — and you're either into that or you're not.

Taberna Economica de Cascais

Taberna Economica sits a few blocks inland from the Cascais waterfront, and the name tells you what you need to know: this is where locals go when they want Portuguese food without the tourist markup. The 4.7 service score backs up the reputation—staff move fast, know the menu cold, and don't hover. Food hits 4.6 across nearly 2,000 reviews, which for a cheap-eats spot in a resort town is legitimately impressive. The menu is straightforward Portuguese—grilled fish, bacalhau done a few ways, pork and potatoes. Portions run large, prices stay low, and the vibe skews neighborhood regular more than Instagram moment. It's the kind of place where families show up midweek and no one blinks. No reservations, so expect a short wait at peak hours. Cash speeds things up but cards work. If you're staying in Cascais and tired of paying beachfront prices, this is the move.
