About

B&B HOTEL Sado Setúbal is a no-frills chain property on the edge of Setúbal, about 30 minutes south of Lisbon. It's the kind of place where you park for free, sleep soundly, and move on — the 4.1 sleep quality rating and 4.2 service score suggest they nail the basics without pretending to be something they're not. Rooms are clean and functional, which is what you're paying for at this price tier. Setúbal itself sits between the Arrábida hills and the Sado estuary, so you're here for the beaches, the dolphin-watching boats, or the grilled fish down by the docks — not for the hotel amenities. The location score reflects proximity to the highway more than charm, but that makes it useful if you're looping through the Alentejo coast or heading to Comporta. If you need a bed between drives and don't want to gamble on a guesthouse, this works.

What travelers are saying.

Steady

Low confidence

Travelers say B&B HOTEL Sado Setúbal delivers on its core promise—spacious rooms, firm beds, and sweeping views of the Sado estuary from hillside perches—but struggles with upkeep and noise isolation. You'll find consistently friendly staff, free parking (tight underground with a lift), and a solid breakfast buffet with fresh-pressed orange juice. The hotel occupies a steep hill requiring a car or €4 taxi ride back from town, and while rooms are large with balconies, many report poor soundproofing (hallway door slams and footsteps from above), grubby balconies, dated bathrooms (tubs with plastic curtains, bouncy floors), and aging HVAC that can fail mid-stay. Cleanliness is hit-or-miss; some guests praise daily turndown, others find dust on vents and cobwebs in hallways. The panoramic 8th-floor restaurant impresses with views, but service hours are limited and room amenities (no hand soap, broken safes, single shared iron) fall short of the 4-star claim.

18 mentions
“Tight underground lot but you park free and take the lift straight to reception”
Staff remember guests' needs and offer 24-hour free coffee/tea in the lobby
26 mentions

Watch-outs

Minimal soundproofing: hallway door slams and upstairs footsteps wake light sleepers
17 mentions
“Felt like sleeping on a squash court—every door closure made us jump at night”
Aging infrastructure: balconies filthy, bathroom floors bouncy, AC units broken or ineffective above 30°C
23 mentions
“Three nights without working AC, technicians came but solved nothing in the heat”
Inconsistent cleaning: dust on vents and moldings, cobwebs in hallways, rooms skipped for days
14 mentions
“Filter on the AC was gray-brown with dust trailing onto the ceiling”

Tips from travelers

Reserve a sea-view room on the 2nd floor or higher to avoid vent noise and maximize balcony sightlines
Arrive before 10am for breakfast to catch the fresh orange juice before they run out
Budget €4 for a taxi back uphill from town—the 20-minute walk is steep in afternoon heat
Request extra pillows at check-in if you prefer soft bedding; default pillows are firm

Maybe skip if: Skip this if you need premium soundproofing or 4-star polish—light sleepers and detail-focused travelers will notice the dated bathrooms, occasional cleaning lapses, and hallway noise.

Epic Sana Lisboa Hotel

Epic Sana Lisboa Hotel is a business-district tower in central Lisbon, a few blocks west of Marquês de Pombal. The 4.8 ratings for rooms, sleep quality, and cleanliness suggest they've nailed the fundamentals — quiet floors, good mattresses, turndown that actually happens. The 4.2 location score is honest; you're not in Baixa or Alfama, but you're also not fighting tourist crowds every time you leave the building, and the metro puts you anywhere in fifteen minutes. The value rating sits at 4.4, which for a full-service hotel in Lisbon means the rack rate includes things that would cost extra elsewhere — gym, pool, breakfast spread that doesn't run out by 9 a.m. Service scores a 4.6, so expect competence over charm. This is the place you book when you want a reliable room and a rooftop bar after a long day, not when you're chasing old-world atmosphere.

Hotel Portugal

Hotel Portugal sits in central Lisbon on a quiet street near Rossio, and the 4.9 location score tells you why people book it — you can walk to Alfama or Baixa in under ten minutes. The building itself is older, but the rooms score a 4.7, which for a mid-range city hotel in this neighborhood is solid. Service runs higher at 4.8, and cleanliness matches it, so housekeeping and front desk are clearly pulling weight. The value rating at 4.5 is worth noting — almost 1,800 reviews and people still think the price makes sense for what you get, which in Lisbon's tourist center isn't always the case. Sleep quality also hits 4.7, unusual for a spot this central where street noise is usually the tradeoff. If you want walkability without needing to be on a major square, this works.

Casa do Barão

Casa do Barão is a 12-room boutique hotel in Lisbon's Alfama district, and the 5.0 service and location subratings explain why the overall rating is perfect across 1,100+ reviews. The building itself is historic, but the setup is intimate and quiet — closer to a guesthouse than a standard hotel, which means you actually meet the staff who run it. Rooms and sleep quality both sit at 4.9, and the value score matches, which is unusual at this price tier. The walkability score maxes out, which makes sense in Alfama; you're in the old quarter, so everything from Castelo de São Jorge to the Fado houses is on foot. Beach access is by shuttle, but you're here for Lisbon, not the coast. The party score is low and kids are allowed but not the focus. If you want a place where people know your name by day two, this works.

Café Portugal

Café Portugal is a neighborhood spot in Setúbal that runs three perfect scores on food, value, and service, though the sample size is small—three reviews total. The cheap-eats price point is real; this is the kind of place where locals drop in for a quick meal without planning ahead. Perfect subratings usually mean someone is doing one or two things well and sticking to it, not trying to be everything. The name suggests straightforward Portuguese cooking, and at this price tier that likely means daily specials, grilled fish, or worker's lunch plates. Setúbal sits on the coast south of Lisbon, so seafood moves through the local economy, but nothing in the ratings tells you what actually shows up on the menu here. Worth knowing if you're staying in Setúbal proper and want something honest without the waterfront markup, but three reviews means you're still taking a small bet.

Lisbon

Flavour Take Away

Flavour Take Away is a budget spot in Cruz de Pau, just outside Setúbal, doing counter service at rock-bottom prices. The single review gives it a perfect score, but one data point doesn't tell you much — what it does tell you is that someone walked away happy after spending very little. The name suggests takeout is the primary format, which tracks for this kind of operation. Setúbal sits on the peninsula south of Lisbon, known more for grilled fish and dolphin-watching boats than for takeaway joints, so this is likely serving a local or drive-through crowd rather than tourists. If you're staying in the area and want something fast and inexpensive, it's an option, but temper expectations until the review count climbs.

Lisbon

Lacinho Azul

Lacinho Azul is a small restaurant in Setúbal, the port city south of Lisbon known for grilled fish and working waterfront cafés. One review with perfect fives across food, value, service, and atmosphere doesn't build a track record, but it does suggest someone had a very good meal and didn't feel gouged for it. Setúbal isn't on most tourist loops, which works in its favor—restaurants here tend to price for locals, and the fish comes straight from the docks. If you're driving between Lisbon and the Alentejo coast or visiting the Arrábida peninsula, it's a logical lunch stop. Whether Lacinho Azul becomes a regular recommendation depends on more meals and more feedback, but the bones are right: a neighborhood spot in a serious seafood town with early signs of doing things well.
